Walter Almeida Endowed Scholarship
Tony and Margaret Almeida moved to Rowan County in 1994 and have been strong advocates for education. Their passion for education, particularly from Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, led to Tony and Margaret Almeida’s decision to establish the Walter Almeida Endowed Scholarship as a way to honor their son and the outstanding education he received at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College.
Throughout their son’s educational careers, Margaret and Tony were active participants in school Parent/Teacher Associations and school athletic organizations.
Their son, Walter, enrolled in courses at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, which was a very positive experience for him. Walter found his instructors to be caring and knowledgeable, giving him personal attention and assistance, particularly in his welding class. Walter thoroughly enjoyed his experience at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College and, to this very day, continues to encourage others to attend their local community college.
Today, Walter has utilized his strong educational background from Rowan-Cabarrus to build a successful career with Ryder Trucks. Walter and his wife, Courtney, have two children, Will and Lauren.
Tony Almeida became involved with the College as a Foundation Board member, Foundation Board Chair and later joined the College’s Board of Trustees, serving as the College’s Graduation Speaker in 2013. He also served as a member of the Building a More Prosperous Community Major Gifts Campaign Core Team.
The Almeida family believes that Rowan-Cabarrus is our region’s most important asset in helping our citizens achieve their hopes and dreams for their families and communities.
