Martha Edith Walker Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Ms. Walker served as the director of elementary education for the Concord City Schools and worked in public education for 44 years. She was a graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne College and worked as an office manager for Shuford’s Insurance Company. Ms. Walker was a native of Cabarrus County, the daughter of John Turner and Martha Lundie Ritchie Walker and an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. She was a well-known historian and collector who preserved many Cabarrus County history materials and donated them to museums. Ms. Walker an active community volunteer with St. Johns Grange, Eastern Cabarrus Historical Society, Reed Gold Mine Corporation, Rimer Home Extension Club, Salvation Army Auxiliary, Historic Cabarrus, and others. A new endowed scholarship fund was created in 2009 from the gifts received from Martha Edith Walker Estate.
